1.1k

In a surprising move, the National Sports Festival, initially scheduled for January 2025, has been postponed.

Persecondnews reports that, according to an aide to the National Sports Commission Chairman, who spoke in an exclusive chat on the condition of anonymity, the decision was made to give the new administration sufficient time to plan.

He said: ” Yes I can confirm to you that the festival has been postponed to a yet-to-be-communicated date.”

This marks the second time the festival has been postponed.

The first postponement was announced by the then Minister of Sports Development, Sen. John Enoh, after the National Council on Sports meeting in Enugu.

Initially, the festival was scheduled to be held from January 12 to 25, 2025, in Ogun State.

Enoh had commended the Ogun State Government for its commitment to hosting the festival, highlighting its importance in promoting national unity and socio-economic growth.

Enoh also emphasized the need for federal and state governments to host national and international sports competitions to accelerate sports development in the country.
