Lagos is in the news again for unstrapped containers falling on hapless motorists, with the latest accident in the Mile 2 area of the megacity on Monday morning.

A vehicle was tragically pinned under a massive container, sparking a swift response from bystanders and emergency services, according to reports.

Persecondnews recalls that Lagos, the former nation’s capital, had recorded too many incidents of falling off of containers on vehicles, especially on the popular Ojuelegba flyover on the Costain-Ojota-Ikorodu expressway, resulting in fatalities.

The accident resulted in a traffic jam as it attracted onlookers and sympathizers who also tried to rescue occupants before the arrival of emergency responders.

Officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were among the first at the scene, working tirelessly to coordinate rescue operations and manage traffic.

Witnesses described the scene as nothing short of harrowing, yet praised the efforts of bystanders who selflessly provided critical assistance until professional rescuers arrived.

“People rushed to help immediately, trying to ensure anyone inside the vehicle was safe,” one witness said.

As of the time of filing this report, no fatalities have been confirmed, though the condition of the vehicle’s occupants remains unclear.

The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, as authorities are prioritizing rescue operations before commencing a thorough investigation.
