Minister Inspects Bagaja Renewables’ Zawaciki 1MWp Mini-Grid Amid Northern Power Crisis

As northern Nigeria grapples with prolonged power outages, Minister of Power Adelabu Adebayo has visited the Zawaciki 1MWp interconnected mini-grid, a project by Bagaja Renewables.

According to Persecondnews, the mini-grid has been providing at least 9 hours of daytime electricity to the Gida Dubu community, demonstrating the potential of renewable energy in addressing the region’s energy needs.

Mr. Sadiq Zakari, Managing Director of Bagaja Renewables, said in a statement that the minister expressed satisfaction for the project, recognizing it as a viable proof of concept for interconnected mini-grids across Nigeria.

The minister noted the importance of such initiatives and called on state governors and stakeholders to support efforts to decentralize and strengthen the nation’s power infrastructure.

Bagaja Renewables is committed to building a resilient, decentralized, and renewable-powered energy future across Northern Nigeria.

The company is currently developing several new renewable energy initiatives, including: “Bagaja Renewables had the distinct honour of welcoming the Honourable Minister of Power to the Zawaciki 1MWp interconnected mini-grid.

“This visit comes at a critical time, as Northern Nigeria endures a prolonged blackout, underscoring the urgent need for alternative power solutions.

“The Zawaciki mini-grid has been instrumental during this crisis, providing at least 9 hours of daytime electricity to the Gida Dubu community, demonstrating the potential of renewable energy in addressing the region’s energy needs.

“The honourable minister expressed admiration for the Zawaciki project, recognizing it as a viable proof of concept for interconnected mini-grids across Nigeria.

“He emphasized the importance of such initiatives and called on state governors and other key stakeholders to support efforts to decentralize and strengthen the nation’s power infrastructure.

“By backing projects like Zawaciki, stakeholders can play an

“As we have witnessed here at Zawaciki, private sector-driven renewable energy solutions can transform Nigeria’s energy landscape.

“With the right policies and support, we can empower communities and enhance energy resilience, even in times of national power instability.

“In addition to the Zawaciki project, Bagaja Renewables is currently developing several new renewable energy initiatives across Northern Nigeria, including:

“Barhim Estate, Katsina: A project focused on providing sustainable power to residential communities, enhancing energy access for households in the area.

“Kura-Karfi Commercial Cluster, Kano: Aimed at supplying clean and
reliable energy to commercial hubs, supporting local businesses, and fostering economic growth.

“Kafin Hausa, Jigawa: With fencing completed, Bagaja Renewables is now
working on the technical design for the Kafin Hausa mini-grid to begin
Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) soon,” he said.

“These projects represent Bagaja Renewables’ unwavering commitment to building a resilient, decentralized, and renewable-powered energy future across Northern Nigeria.”
