The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has launched a free cancer screening campaign through its Corporate Social Responsibility arm, the NNPC Foundation.

The “Cancer Awareness and ZSX Screening” initiative aims to provide free cancer screening, health education, and consultations to 3,000 indigent Nigerians across six geopolitical zones.

In a statement on Tuesday by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., Mr. Olufemi Soneye, he stated that the campaign focuses on breast, cervical, and prostate cancer, offering early detection support to at-risk populations.

He announced the establishment of screening centres in Kaduna, Rivers, Ondo, Benue, Imo, and Gombe.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cancer claims over 79,000 lives annually in Nigeria.

NNPC Foundation’s Managing Director, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, emphasized the importance of collective effort and accessible healthcare in combating cancer.

“This campaign is about saving lives, building awareness, and creating pathways to preventive care for Nigerians who need it most,” Arukwe said.

“Early detection is crucial to improving survival rates, and this campaign is a vital step toward that goal.”

The initiative follows a successful screening drive in Abuja in February 2024, where over 200 residents received free cancer screenings.

NNPC Ltd.’s campaign reflects its broader mission to promote health equity and enhance Nigerians’ well-being.
