Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, has made significant strides in the latest FIFA rankings, climbing three places to reach the 36th position globally.

According to Persecondnews, the team has improved its standing in both global and continental football with 1503.29 points.

The Super Eagles’ ascent follows their narrow victory over Libya in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on October 11.

This win boosted their world ranking and propelled them to fourth place in Africa, surpassing their previous sixth-spot ranking in September.

In the continental lineup, Nigeria trails Morocco, Senegal, and Egypt.

The FIFA rankings update considered performances in various international competitions, including World Cup 2026 qualifiers, Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifiers, Nations League matches, and friendly games.

Globally, Argentina maintains its top spot, closely followed by France and Spain.

Other notable movements include Portugal’s rise to seventh and Italy’s climb to ninth. Algeria, Peru, and Greece also made significant gains, jumping to 37th, 38th, and 42nd, respectively.

Among African nations, Equatorial Guinea, Zimbabwe, The Gambia, and Botswana have made substantial progress.

Botswana recorded the largest overall jump in terms of points gained. Cameroon re-entered the top 50, ranking 49th.

The FIFA rankings reflect the dynamic nature of international football, with teams continually shifting positions based on their performances.
