#EndSARS anniversary rally: Activists arrested in Lagos, names released

No fewer than 22 activists, including the spokesperson, Hassan Taiwo Soweto, were arrested by the police on Sunday morning at Lekki Toll Gate, according to rights campaigners under the aegis of the Youth Rights Campaign (YRC).

They were allegedly apprehended during a peaceful protest to mark the 4th anniversary of #EndSARS killings.

A statement by Mr. Francis Nwapa, the National Secretary, said: “We demand their immediate and unconditional release. We understand that they are presently detained at SCID Panti Yaba.”

Those arrested, according to him are:

(19) Isaac Obasi
(20) Funmilayo Jolade Ajayi

The demonstrators had demanded the release of all #ENDSARS protesters who are still in detention after four years.

They also demanded the immediate report of the judicial panel, which includes adequate compensation for the victims of #ENDSARS.

“We call on the labour movement, civil society organisations, and youth groups not to be intimidated but to be prepared to mobilise mass resistance against democratic attacks by the Tinubu government as well as its anti-poor neo-liberal policies.

“We also demand the immediate release of all still in detention in connection with the #EndBadGovernance protest accords with the country and the dropping of trumped charges against Adaramoye Michael Lenin and 10 others,” they said.
