Chelsea continued their positive run under Enzo Maresca with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

The match saw a record-breaking 14 yellow cards, surpassing the previous record of 12 set in 2016 between Chelsea and Tottenham.

Substitute Jason Sancho made a dream debut, assisting Christopher Nkunku’s winning goal in the 86th minute, just seven minutes after coming on.

Sancho expressed his delight, saying, “It’s amazing to make my debut for Chelsea, and it’s great to get the three points. I’ve been working hard for this moment, and I’m happy I got my chance. It’s a great start to the season.”

Chelsea’s goalkeeper Robert Sanchez played a crucial role, saving Evanilson’s penalty in the 38th minute.

This marks the second consecutive penalty Sanchez has saved in the Premier League, following his save from Bruno Fernandes in December 2023.

Sancho’s debut and Sanchez’s heroics made up for a nervy performance from Chelsea, who gave away a penalty and struggled to create clear-cut chances.

However, Maresca’s tactical adjustments and Sancho’s impact off the bench secured the win.

The victory marks a promising start to the season for Chelsea under Maresca’s leadership, with the team showing resilience and determination to grind out results.
