Ahead of the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, Abia Gov. Alex Otti, has rallied support for the Labour Party’s candidate and former Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) President, Mr. Olumide Akpata (SAN), urging the people to replicate the party’s victory in Abia in the election.
Speaking in Igbo, Otti urged the people to elect the Labour Party to power, just as they did in Abia State during the previous general elections.
He emphasized the significance of the state’s upcoming governorship election and urged voters to protect their votes.
“Though the party may not have the guns and ammunition to win the election, we have the voters to deliver our chosen candidate for the people of the state.
“I have come to appeal to you. You are all our people. I told Akpata that there is no need to preach to the converted. We have already converted you, and now it’s time for us to convert others.
“ This election will make a difference in Edo State. It is an election for the people. So, the charge I want to give you is that when you vote on that day, remain at your polling booth and do not leave. That is how we did it in Abia State. For 48 to 72 hours, nobody sleeps.”
Otti also said:“I used to tell our people that we have a saying, ‘The rat does not eat something when the owner is awake.’ So, you should not sleep. If it is about the votes, we will have the votes; if it is about winning, we will win. We will not allow any rat to steal our victory.”
Akpata, a former President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), noted that the Abia governor was in Benin to speak to the people of the state, not just the party faithful.
Quoting from the scriptures, Akpata said: “Jesus Christ said He did not come for the saved but for the lost.”
