Following the re-invitation of the President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Com. Joe Ajaero, by the Nigeria Police Force, the NLC has convened an emergency meeting on Monday in Abuja.

The police have issued fresh summonses to the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and the General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, for questioning, according to sources from the Paschal Bafyau Labour House who confirmed to a correspondent of Persecondnews.

According to the source, the labour movement cannot be gagged because the fresh invitation is perceived as an attempt to undermine and intimidate the union’s leadership.

He said, “It should be understood that we are a responsible organisation that always thinks about the good of the nation and citizens at all times.

“The repeated invitations and the recent raid on the NLC office were clear indications of an orchestrated agenda by the state to harass and intimidate those holding dissenting views.

“This invitation, coming on the heels of the last one, clearly suggests a manifest intent by the state; it is so obvious.

“Those who were initially in doubt can now see that we never acted in breach of the law.

“The raid was a violation of our rights and an act of impunity intended to scare, harass, and intimidate.”

Persecondnews recalls that Ajaero and the General Secretary, Emma Ugboaja, have received another invitation from the police force headquarters in Abuja.

The fresh invitation came barely 30 hours after Ajaero reported at the office over allegations of terrorism financing, criminal conspiracy, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.

The labour leader is invited to appear at Force Headquarters on September 5, 2024.

Ajaero and the secretary are to answer questions about alleged criminal intimidation, conduct likely to breach public peace, and malicious damage to properties.

They are being invited by the Force Intelligence Department of the Nigeria Police Force.
