The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has begun a seven-day nationwide warning strike, effective from midnight on Monday, August 26, 2024.

According to NARD President Dr. Dele Abdullahi, the strike commenced at midnight on August 26 in protest of unresolved issues affecting the association.

Abdullahi said the decision was taken during the Emergency National Executive Council meeting.

He said: “The strike is commencing by midnight today. It’s for seven days; it’s a warning strike, and it’s total.”

The kidnapping of Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, an ophthalmology registrar at the National Eye Centre in Kaduna, sparked the strike.

Dr. Popoola was kidnapped on December 27, 2023, along with her husband and nephew.

Although her husband was freed in
March 2024, Popoola and her nephew are still being held captive.
