The Supreme Court has dismissed the two separate appeals filed by the Labour Party (LP) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the declaration of Hope Uzodinma as the duly elected governor of Imo State.

The court dismissed the appeals of Mr. Athan Achonu of LP and Mr. Samuel Anyawu of PDP for lack of merit.

In the lead judgment delivered by Justice Mohammed Baba Idris, it was held that the LP and PDP gubernatorial candidates failed to provide sufficient evidence to support their claims of over-voting and other electoral malpractices in the November 11, 2023, election.

The apex court’s unanimous judgments upheld the earlier verdicts of the Court of Appeal and the Imo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which had rejected the petitions in their separate rulings.
