The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Edo State, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, has given a seven-day ultimatum to APC Senator Adams Oshiomhole for the malicious statements he made against him on national television.
Ighodalo, through his lawyer, has
demanded a retraction and asked Oshiomhole to tender public and private apologies to him, which must also be published in two specific national dailies: the Vanguard and ThisDay newspapers.
Ighodalo’s legal team warned that if their demands are not met, they will initiate legal proceedings seeking N20 billion in damages without further warning or notice.
These demands were outlined in a letter dated August 12, 2024, sent to Oshiomhole by Ighodalo’s legal representatives, Mr. Ayo Asala (SAN) & Associates.
The letter claimed that despite receiving a warning from the program’s moderators, Oshiomhole made baseless and false claims about Ighodalo’s candidacy during an appearance on Arise News.
Furthermore, Oshiomhole continued to make defamatory remarks, launching a personal attack on Ighodalo’s character, reputation, and integrity.
The letter read in part: “On or about 7th day of August 2024, our client’s attention was drawn to widely circulated statements made by you while being interviewed on a national television station, Arise News, during its Morning Show Program, touching and concerning our clients.
“These statements have also been widely circulated on various social media platforms, including ‘X’ (formally called Twitter), ‘WhatsApp’, ‘Facebook’, and others.”
