Acting Governor Faruk Lawal Jobe of Katsina has lifted the curfew that was in place in response to the recent protests in the state.
Jobe’s directive was contained in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Abdullahi Faskari.
It reads: “Following reports on the prevailing peace and harmony all over Katsina State, the Acting Governor, Faruk Lawal, has lifted the curfew imposed on the state with immediate effect.
“The acting governor’s order for the lifting of the curfew was to enable people to go about their normal businesses unhindered.
“Jobe also reiterated the commitment of the Dikko Radda’s-led administration towards curtailing the security challenges in the state.
“He appreciated the security agencies and the good people of the state for their support and understanding.”
Persecondnews recalls that the acting governor, on August 2, imposed a curfew across all 34 local government areas of the state.
A 24-hour curfew was declared for Dutsin-ma, whereas the other 33 local government areas had a curfew from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m..
The decision followed an emergency meeting of the State Security Council held to tackle the law and order crisis in certain areas of the state sparked by the nationwide protests.
