Veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu has opened up about the painful decision to call off her wedding just two days before the big day, citing physical abuse.

Nwosu shared her experience during a recent appearance on the “Talk to B” podcast monitored by Per Second News on Friday, where she discussed the impact of domestic violence and the difficult choices she had to make.

Nwosu disclosed that she called off the engagement because the man she was about to marry had physically abused her, which was the first time he had displayed such violent behaviour.

The actress, who was pregnant at the time, said the incident was a wake-up call, leading her to reconsider the relationship.

“I called off my wedding two days before because that day, he gave me the beating of my life,” Nwosu recalled.

“I was pregnant then, and I thought to myself, ‘Is this what I’m entering into? Because he had never done it before.’”

Nwosu noted that, while infidelity might not be a deal-breaker for her, domestic abuse is something she cannot tolerate.

She advised women in similar situations to prioritize their safety and leave abusive relationships without hesitation.

“For me, infidelity isn’t enough to let go of your man. But when it comes to battery, I advise any woman not to take any of her property—just run for your life because they will never stop. Once a man lifts his hand on you, he won’t stop,” she stated firmly.

Reflecting on her decision, Nwosu admitted that she initially had regrets but ultimately felt relieved for choosing her own path over a potentially dangerous marriage.

“I had to choose between my profession and marrying a guy, and I chose my job. He gave me an option, and I chose my job. At one point, I regretted that decision, but after that, I was like, ‘Oh wow, thank God I chose my path.’’
