Security agents in the Karu area of the Federal Capital Territory dispersed a group of protesters on Monday, taking three people into custody as they gathered to demonstrate.
Protester Yahaya Abdullahi said in an interview alleged that security agents deployed tear gas against them.
He said, “Our people were just coming out, and the police and other security agents started tear-gassing us and arrested some of our people; we know of three for now.”
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has called for a peaceful resolution of the grievances of protesters who have taken to the streets across the country since August 1.
In a televised address on Sunday, he reiterated his administration’s commitment to engaging with protesters and addressing their concerns.
Despite the president’s appeal, protesters remained resolute, vowing to continue their demonstrations, as they deemed his speech inadequate in addressing their core demands.
