The new Managing Director/CEO of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, has assumed duty following a handover by his predecessor, Mr. Mohammed Bello-Koko.
At the handover ceremony at the NPA headquarters in Marina, Lagos, Dantsoho expressed his profound gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve as the NPA’s 29th Managing Director.
He promised to boost the organisation’s revenue generation and port efficiency.
He said: “As we match towards this great journey, I wish to state that our main goal is to reposition the Nigerian Ports Authority for increased productivity and greater efficiency for increased revenue generation.”
Dantsoho said he was committed to ensuring that the Nigerian ports compete favourably with neighbouring ports, especially in terms of port operations.
According to him, this would be achieved through a robust exhibition of the overall commitment and collaboration towards success.
On the welfare of staff, the NPA boss promised improved welfare and to ensure prompt payment of salaries, compensations, training, and capacity development, especially for employees who show added value in their areas of operations.
He pledged to continue with the digital transformation of the agency and the port community system, which are key to blocking leakages and corruption, while also promising to explore ways to further improve port infrastructure renewal.
‘’In particular, we shall drive port rehabilitation and modernization. We shall pay attention to logistics that surround the arrival of cargo to the port corridor, the loading of ships, and other things that surround the berthing of cargo.”
Dantsoho said he would further tap into the benefits of the Deep Seaport Corridor and promote the ideals of transparency for ease of doing business.
In the area of collaboration with sister agencies, Dr. Abubakar stated that he would maintain an open door for communication and collaboration with sister agencies and all relevant stakeholders.
