Kylian Mbappe’s “perfect” Spanish during his Real Madrid debut has stunned fans.

Mbappe joined the Spanish giants on a free transfer earlier this summer and underwent his medical on Tuesday following the conclusion of Euro 2024, in which he helped France to the semi-finals.

President Florentino Perez introduced him to a rapturous reception in Madrid, where he spoke in Spanish to the delight of the assembled crowd, which included his parents, Wilfried Mbappe and Fayza Lamari.

In front of 80,000 fans, he took to the Bernabeu pitch and appeared in a Madrid shirt for the first time since leaving PSG at the end of last season.

During the unveiling, he spoke Spanish to the fans inside the ground while also speaking in French, leaving journalists and supporters stunned over the quality of his Spanish.

He said: “I knew that one day I wanted to play for Real Madrid. I knew that I needed to learn Spanish; this is very important.

“I really wanted to learn it. It helped me to improve, and I also had some Spanish managers and teammates, so I could really practice with them.

“I wasn’t afraid of making mistakes, I wanted to learn as much as possible. That’s how I learned. I know I still have to improve, and I want to.”

After revealing why and when he had been learning the language, fans took to social media to express their shock.

“Of course it is; he knew he’d be at Madrid for like 6 years,” one fan posted on X.

Another added: “He’s been practicing for this moment his whole life.”

Mbappe opened up on an incredible day as he was unveiled as a Madrid player at the club, where he will join the likes of Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jnr.

He added: “My family is so happy; I can see my mum crying. It’s an incredible day for me. I’ve dreamed about this day since I was a kid. Being here today means a lot to me,’ he said in Spanish as the crowd persistently interrupted his speech with cheers.

“Now I have another dream—and that’s the dream of living up to this club’s history and Madridistas’ expectations.

“I can promise that I will give my all for the club and this badge. I’d also like to send a message to all the kids here today. I was once like you. If you have the passion, you’ll achieve your dreams.”
