The closed-door meeting between President Bola Tinubu and labor leaders over the minimum wage has ended in a deadlock.

Mr. President called the meeting to address the ongoing minimum wage issue and ease the suffering of the Nigerian people.

The labour leaders who left the meeting said their consultations with the Presidency will continue next week because they must report back to their organs what the President said.

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, said the positions of N250,000 for labour and N62,000 for the federal government still stand.

Persecondnews recalls that at the dinner to mark Nigeria’s 25 years of unbroken democracy in Abuja, President Tinubu said that he would approve a new minimum wage that the government can afford.

“The minimum wage is going to be what Nigerians can afford, what you can afford, and what I can afford. Cut your coat according to your size, if you have any size at all,” he said.

The president also pledged to bring down the prices of food items by tackling the menace of banditry that has forced many farmers away from their farms.
