The Arewa Consultative Forum has called on President Bola Tinubu to extend the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline Project to other northern states to revive economic activities and benefit citizens.

In a statement on Sunday, Mr. Tukur Mohammed, ACF spokesperson, said the AKK gas pipeline project should be extended to Zaria towards Katsina and Zamfara states.

Mohammed pointed out that the AKK gas pipeline was top of the forum’s agenda during its visit to President Bola Tinubu in Aso Rock Villa on May 30.

The forum applauded Tinubu for his commitment to complete the project in the first quarter of 2025.

He said: “Finally, convinced about the economic transformational benefits of the gas pipeline project, ACF calls for its extension to other states.

“In particular, it should not cost too much to extend the line from Zaria towards Katsina and Zamfara states.

“Such an endeavour has the real potential to positively impact the revival of moribund industries in Funtua, Katsina, and Gusau, as well as the establishment of new ones.

“Attention to other projects which, if completed, will go a long way in revamping the economy of the Northern States and Nigeria at large.”

The ACF highlighted some of these projects, including the Mambila Hydroelectric Dam, the Sokoto-Badagri Highway, the dredging of the Rivers Benue and Niger, the Great Green Wall, and the on-going railway and highway projects.

Persecondnews recalls that the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline project, Nigeria’s biggest domestic gas pipeline project so far by President Tinubu’s administration, is focused on unleashing the immense economic potential of Northern Nigeria, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mr. Mohammed Idris, said on Friday.

The Minister stated this in Kaduna during a site visit to the River Kaduna AKK Gas Pipeline Project in company with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, the Minister of State, Gas Resources, Mr. Ekperikpe Ekpo, and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the NNPC Ltd, Mr. Mele Kyari.

He said: “The AKK project is focused on unleashing the immense economic potential of Northern Nigeria. The gas that will be transported will bring much-needed energy to homes, businesses, and industries and will also be available for enabling transportation and bringing down its cost.

“The continuation and fast-tracking of this project—Nigeria’s biggest domestic gas pipeline project so far—by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administration is a testament to the President’s commitment to the industrialization and economic prosperity of every part of the country.”
