The Senate has confirmed Mr. Emomotimi Agama as the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Persecondnews reports that other SEC appointments confirmed by the Senate were Mr. Frank Chukwuogor, executive commissioner (legal and enforcement); Mr. Abimbola Ajomale, executive commissioner (operations); and Mrs. Samiya Usman, executive commissioner (corporate services).

The confirmations followed the presentation of a report by Sen. Osita Izunaso, Chair of the Senate Committee on Capital Markets.

Izunaso, representing Imo West, stated that the nominees met all necessary requirements for their appointments by President Bola Tinubu.

“They were eminently qualified for the positions. They passed all security checks and answered relevant questions during the screening,” Izunaso said.

After his presentation, the Senate voted and confirmed the nominees.

Sen. Barau Jibrin, deputy senate president, urged the appointees to put the national interest first in the discharge of their duties for the betterment of the country.

Jibrin said: “They should do their work in the best way they can to turn around the economy of Nigeria.

“They should try not to let Mr. President down or the nation. They should do their best to use that institution to promote the well-being of this country.”
