The Enugu State Police Command says it has apprehended and charged a masquerader, Ugwuoke Ebube, a 22-year-old, who allegedly assaulted a nurse in a video that went viral early this month.

A throng of masqueraders at the University of Nigeria town of Nsukka beat a female nurse, Miss Ogbonna, to pulp in a video clip that went viral across all social media platforms in the country, according to Persecondnews.

In a statement on Wednesday, Enugu police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe announced the arrest and charge of Ugwuoke Ebube, a masquerader.

Ndukwe said: “An investigation into the case suggests that the suspect was part of a group of masqueraders that similarly assaulted a female nurse riding a motorcycle.

“He was today, May 22, 2024, arraigned in the Nsukka Magistrate Court of Enugu State, Nigeria, but was granted bail by the court.”

Speaking on the issue, Enugu Police Commissioner Kanayo Uzuegbu, warned those intending “to hide under the guise of culturally celebrating masquerades” to commit such criminal acts of assault against fellow citizens to desist forthwith.
