President Bola Tinubu inaugurated three landmark projects on Wednesday, which include the expansion of the AHL Gas Processing Plant, the ANOH Gas Processing Plant, and the 23.3km ANOH to Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) Custody Transfer Metering Station Gas Pipeline Projects.

In his keynote address, the Nigerian leader congratulated the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited for demonstrating team spirit in delivering the projects in 11 months, in line with his administration’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’.

He said the projects are fully in line with the decade of gas initiatives and the Federal Government’s quest to grow value from the nation’s abundant gas assets while simultaneously eliminating gas flaring and accelerating industrialization.

He pointed out that this laudable project is a huge propeller for economic growth, and it will encourage Nigerians to switch to using cleaner energy.

He said: “This commissioning event is highly significant to our country as it demonstrates the administration’s concerted efforts to accelerate the development of critical gas infrastructures geared at significantly enhancing the supply of energy to boost industrial growth and create employment opportunities.

“Also, the projects are fully in line with the Decade of Gas initiative and the Federal Government’s quest to grow value from the nation’s abundant gas assets while concurrently eliminating gas flaring and accelerating industrialization.

“It is pleasing that approximately 500 MMscf of gas in aggregate would be supplied to the domestic market from these two gas processing plants.

“From the outset of this administration, we have been very clear of our intention to leverage the virtually unlimited capacity of gas to drive economic growth.

“Aside from the presidential CNG initiative, which is aimed at moving the good people of Nigeria away from petrol and diesel as vehicular combustion fuel, significant progress has also been recorded in incentivizing gas development through Presidential Executive Orders.

“I wish to assure the citizenry that indeed these are just the beginning, as the federal government is stepping up its coordination of other landmark projects and initiatives that will ensure the earliest realization of gas-fueled prosperity in our country.

“Consequently, I wish to assure investors in the energy space that this is an investment-enabling government, and we will not relent in facilitating the ease of doing business.

“The theme of this commissioning, “From Gas to Prosperity; Renewed Hope,” must be adopted by all gas sector participants and would-be investors as a clarion call to ramp up efforts to accelerate investment and the development of projects in the gas sector on a win-win basis.”

Dr. Mele Kyari, the Group CEO of NNPC Ltd., stated in his welcome speech that Nigeria has significant natural gas resources, including over 209 TCF of proven gas reserves, with the potential to grow to over 600 TCF.

He said: “As a commercial enterprise, these milestone projects present an opportunity to monetize our abundant natural gas resources by expanding access to energy to support economic growth, industrialization, and job creation.

“Your Excellency Mr. President may kindly wish to note that in order to monetize our gas resources, NNPC is currently executing several major gas infrastructure projects, such as the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano pipeline with the associated power plants, the full delivery of the wider OB3 project shortly, and also progressing with other initiatives such as fertiliser and petrochemical plants, small and large-scale LNG, and floating LNG.

“Currently, NNPC is executing a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) project aimed at providing a cleaner fuel to power our vehicles as a cheaper alternative to the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

“We are also pleased to mention that this is in line with the just-announced presidential directive on the purchase of CNG-powered vehicles by government institutions and in furtherance of the overall objective of broadening CNG as an alternative.”

Delta State Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori inaugurated the Kwale Gas Processing Plant (GPP-1) on behalf of President Tinubu, who joined virtually from the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa Abuja.

Oborevwori stated that the project will reestablish Nigeria as a global gas power, highlighting its potential to enhance gas availability and stimulate electricity generation.

According to Persecondnews, the AHL Gas Processing Plant 2 (AHLGPP 2) is currently under construction.

The gas processing plant, a joint venture between SEEPCO and NNPC Ltd., includes utility and storage facilities, connecting pipelines, and truck loading facilities. One of the project’s major objectives is to process wet feed gas into dry lean gas, propane, and LPG for domestic use.
