Suspected bandits have reportedly attacked Maraban Agyaro, where they abducted the village heads of Kakangi and Kisaya villages and killed eight villagers in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to Persecondnews, the attackers invaded the area around 8 a.m. on Thursday, and they also abducted four farmers who were on their respective farms.

A local source in the village also confirmed the abduction of six women.

Mr. Yahaya Musa Dan Salio, a lawmaker representing Kakangi Ward at the State House of Assembly, confirmed the incident, saying all eight people killed were from Kakangi.

“Yes, I just received a call that two village heads in my constituency were abducted and eight other people killed. All those killed are residents of Kakangi,” he said.

When contacted, the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansur Hassan, said he would get details from the area before commenting.

Idris Khalid, a resident of the LG who confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said the gun-wielding men invaded the villages early on Thursday.

The eight vigilante members who were killed in Kakangi were Bala Kamba, Abdurrahman Musa (Ubale), Kabiru Dan Dugui, Hambali Abu, Aliyu Abu, Nura Jika (Maleka), Mubarak Musa (Dan Wamba), and Ikra Hantsi.

He said the vigilantes were attacked while trailing the kidnapped victims, who were abducted on their way to a burial between Kakangi and Sabon Layi.

“The vigilantes engaged the terrorists, killing scores of them, but could not rescue the two traditional rulers and others.

“Normally, anytime there is a kidnapping incident, the vigilantes always trail the terrorists to rescue the victims.

“It’s unfortunate that in the process, eight gallant officers of the vigilantes who have been sacrificing to ensure the safety of our people were lost,” the resident said.
