The FCT Chapter has declared Friday’s elections into the various offices inconclusive.
SWAN National President Isaiah Benjamin disclosed this in an exclusive chat with Persecondnews at the media centre of the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
Benjamin confirmed to our correspondent that there was a tie in the positions of chairman and treasurer and announced that “a concluding election will be held in two weeks.”
He said: “We had hoped that we would conclude the election today; however, we have the secretary and assistant secretary elected, the financial secretary, welfare officer, and vice chairman decided.
“There was a tie, and there was no way we could have a tiebreaker. After consultations with past officers, we came to the conclusion that there should be a re-run in two weeks.”
Persecondnews reports that the election was a unifying strategy to bring the two factions of the chapters in the capital city under one umbrella.
Speaking on the essence of peace in FCT SWAN, the National President said: “When there is peace, you achieve more success; you can’t go far when there is chaos at home.
“We didn’t reap from the crisis that rocked FCT SWAN, so we all agreed to come together and do the needful. Administrators took advantage of the crisis, and things that were to benefit sports writers were shared among their friends and families because they claimed that they didn’t know who to relate to.”
The tie for the chairmanship position was between Tolu and Kelechi, who both scored 64 votes, while Jane and Taofeek, who are both vying for the office of treasurer, scored 68 votes each.
A total of 163 sports writers were accredited delegates for the election, and according to the official figures from SWANECO, only 136 delegates cast their votes.
