Breaking: Super Falcons defeat Cameroon, secure final round of Olympics qualifier

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have defeated the Indomitable Lioness of Cameroon by a lone goal from Esther Okonkwo in the opening stages of the encounter to send Nigeria to the fourth round of the Olympics qualifier.

Persecondnews reports that the girls had failed to qualify in the last three editions, missing out of the Olympics in 2012, 2016, and 2021.

It was a hot day in the Federal Capital Territory, with a temperature of 35°. It was not coincidental that it affected the flow of the game, with the center referee calling for a cooling break in both halves.

The Super Falcons dominated play in the first half, with Rasheedat Ajibade a major culprit, squandering three big chances in the half.

Tampers Frayed up in the second half, Annie Enganemben was red-carded for her challenge on Nigerian goalkeeper Nnadozie Chiamaka.

The Super Falcons will face the winner between Bayana Bayana of South Africa and Tanzania in the fourth round.
