Super Eagles midfielder Alhassan Yusuf has been ruled out of the all-important clash with Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Royal Antwerp combative defensive midfielder won the hearts of many Nigerian football lovers with his impressive 68-minute cameo in Nigeria’s clash against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.

The coach of the Nigerian national team, Jose Peseiro, disclosed in a pre-match press conference on Wednesday in Abidjan, ahead of the crucial encounter on Thursday, that Yusuf will be available for the last group game.

Peseiro said: “Yusuf is out, but he may be back for our last group game.

“Yusuf, who was a late replacement for Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi, has become a key component of the Super Eagles team.”

Persecondnews reports that the Antwerp midfielder, 23, trained apart from the rest of the squad with a physio.

He claimed that he only experienced cramps after the Equatorial Guinea game, which could have been a result of the day’s extreme heat and humidity.
