A chaotic situation pervaded Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Tuesday evening as a deafening explosion believed to be from gas rocked the city to its foundation, destroying houses and leaving many people feared dead.

The epicentre of the explosion was reported to be around the Sango area, but its impact was felt far and wide, creating a wave of panic and confusion among the residents, reports Persecondnews.

As the thunderous sound echoed from Sango to the University of Ibadan down to Ojoo, Ring Road, and the Eleyele axis, vehicular movements came to a standstill, with many people desperately seeking refuge from the unexpected disaster.

The blast not only disrupted the city’s routine but also sparked fears of a possible tremor or natural catastrophe among those who heard it.

The state government and security agencies have not yet released an official statement, leaving the general public in the dark about the explosion’s true cause.

Per Second News reliably gathered that rescue teams and medical personnel are reported to have swiftly responded to the scene; their efforts focused on providing assistance and uncovering the extent of the devastation.

Eyewitnesses told Per Second News that several houses were destroyed in the aftermath of the explosion, intensifying concerns about the potential loss of life.

A University of Ibadan student who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone said, “It is true. We all heard the sound, and it was very loud. The cloud is cloudy with smoke. It happened at Bodija, and we in the UI area could see the smoke. Even those at Sango and Ojo heard the sound. In fact, we are all in a room, scared for our lives.”

As the city grapples with the aftermath, citizens are left with lingering questions, anxiously awaiting updates from authorities on the details of the incident and any potential measures to mitigate the impact of such incidents in the future.

The gas explosion has not only left physical scars in the affected areas but has also shaken the sense of security and normalcy that residents once took for granted.
