Gunmen have captured Safiyanu Isa-Andaha, the Chairman of the Akwanga Local Government in Nasarawa state, according to the State Police Command.

Confirming this on Tuesday in Lafia, DSP Ramhan Nansel, the state’s police command spokesman, said they received information that the chairman and another individual were abducted from Ningo village in the Akwanga council area at about 8:30 p.m.

Additionally, he said the state’s police commissioner, Umar Nadada, had dispatched personnel to apprehend the criminals and extricate the chairman and one other unharmed individual.

“Along with other security agencies, the police are presently pursuing the kidnappers to secure the safe return of the council chairman and the other victim,” he explained.

Nansel, therefore, implored members of the public, particularly villagers residing in the vicinity to provide the police with information that could aid in the apprehension of the perpetrators and the rescue of the abducted.

The incident was also corroborated by Mr. Haruna Kassimu, Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to Governor Abdullahi Sule and a close associate of the LG boss.

Per Second News gathered on Monday, January 1, 2024 at 8:30 p.m., the council boss and one Adamu Custom were reportedly abducted from Ningo village in Akwanga.
