Six months after exiting office, former President Muhammadu Buhari has reminisced about his tenure, hinting that
a cabal must have hijacked his eight-year administration.

According to Buhari, who spoke for the first time since he left office, there is a possibility of losing the grip of power to a cabal in Aso Rock.

Buhari’s wife had raised the alarm in the first tenure that a cabal had taken over Buhari’s administration, but was dismissed by her husband.

Persecondnews reports that Buhari made the revelation in an interview with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA).

When asked if he lost his administration to a cabal, Buhari said:“It must have been.”

On his administration’s effort to prosecute violators of the country’s laws, Buhari, who is currently sojourning in his country home, Daura, said he was not sure anyone who breached the law was allowed to “walk away.”

“God gave me the opportunity to serve my country, but I did my best. But whether my best was good enough, I leave it for people to judge.”

On his foreign affairs, the former president also said he was “too preoccupied with local matters to be bothered with foreign issues as president”.

His biggest challenge, he recalled, was how to secure the country against insurgency, banditry and criminalities.

Scoring himself high on his spartan lifestyle, Buhari said he did not try to compete with Nigeria’s wealthy class by acquiring land, houses, and cars during his tenure as president.

“This is the reason I’m living in peace after exiting government.

“Some Nigerians attempted to set a trap for me by trying to ambush me with certain opportunities,” the retired army general reminisced.

Buhari said he avoided the trap because he knew that once they knew he had been compromised, they would take advantage of it to “milk the country”.
