The two-day-old strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress was on Wednesday night suspended.
The two unions said the suspension followed the intervention of the National Security Adviser, Mr Nuhu Ribadu.
Ribadu and the Minister of Labour, Nr Simon Lalong, had held a meeting with the union leaders till about 9.00pm on Wednesday.
The National Deputy Vice-President of the TUC, Tommy Etim, told newsmen in Abuja: “The NEC of the NLC and the TUC have suspended the strike. We did this based on our trust for the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who gave us his words.”
The NSA had announced that those responsible for the brutalisation of the National President of NLC, Joe Ajaero, have been arrested.
