“President Tinubu also approved the creation of the FCT Civil Service Commission”

By executive fiat, President Bola Tinubu has pulled out the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and granted its own Civil Service Commission.

He has effectively given the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, wide powers and more control over the affairs of the territory’s administration including internally generated revenue of Abuja.

The latest development was disclosed on Friday at a news conference in Abuja addressed by Wike.

The minister expressed sadness over the non-existence of the commission over the years which, he noted, has made it impossible for directors in the FCTA to attain the position of Permanent Secretary.

Wike disclosed that the President had also approved the establishment of the Woman Affairs Secretariat for the territory which would be commissioned next week.

Persecondnews gathered that the commission will enable the Minister to have more control over civil servants’ appointments, promotions, and discipline.

The Treasury Single Account is a financial policy which was proposed by the Goodluck Jonathan government in 2012, but was fully implemented by the Buhari’s administration to aid the effective management and control of government cash flows from all government agencies into a single account with the Central Bank of Nigeria.
