Erling Haaland has set a new record in his debut season, scoring an astonishing 52 goals in all competitions, just like a tropical cyclone it took him 180 seconds for a lift-off in the opening half of the 2023/24 Premier League season.

He also scored a brace in the first half.

Haaland has now scored a brace in Game Week One in each of his last four seasons.

The only dark side to City’s first-half performance was the hamstring injury to Kevin De Bruyne as the Belgian limped off in the 23rd minutes with Mateo Kovacic coming on for the city captain.

The phenomenal Norwegian shot to goal from close range in the fourth minute before doubling City’s advantage with a superb finish off the underside of the bar.

Rodri punished sloppy Burnley set-piece defending in the second half to add City’s third.

Vincent Kompany the first Belgian to take charge of a Premier League game, tinkered with his formation in the game switching from 4-4-2 to 5-2-3 and 3-4-2-1, all in a bid to disrupt the free-flowing Manchester City.

At the end of 90 minutes, Manchester City maintained their perfect record against the Clarets winning eight in eight games, scoring 28 goals and conceding no goals.

Burnley were blunt in the final third, and their night went from bad to soar when Anass Zaroury yellow card was cancelled and changed to a red card for a reckless tackle on Kyle Walker.

Zaroury becomes the first Burnley player to be red-carded in 150 games at Turf Moor.
