President Bola Tinubu on Sunday in Abuja convened an emergency meeting of members of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government on the latest development in Niger Republic.

The extraordinary session is aimed at strategizing on how to wade into the political crisis in Niger Republic accentuated by the overthrow of President Muhammed Bazoum by some soldiers in a bloodless coup.

The meeting which started at 12:58pm at Aso Rock, is coming four days after a military coup ousted the administration of Bazoum.

Persecondnews had earlier reported that a military coup has been confirmed in Niger, West Africa as soldiers have formally announced takeover of power on national television and the suspension of the country’s constitution.

Since Wednesday, July 26, the Presidential Guard had held President Bazoum hostage.

ECOWAS, the African Union and some countries had condemned the coup d’etat and called for a return to constitutional order.

Meanwhile, the junta has announced the closing of the country’s air and land borders with its neighbours including Nigeria where the immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari, said he would relocate to (Niger Republic), a few kilometers from his country home, Daura in Kastina State if Nigerians “disturb” him.
