Music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido has received knocks from a section of Muslim faithful over the video of his artiste which was shot in a mosque-like scene that some found offensive.
The video was shared by Davido on Friday as the singer urged his fans to enjoy visuals to the popular single, Jaye Lo, released by DMW’s music act, Logosolori.
The video depicted scenes where some men, clad in white Jalabias, after observing the Sallah prayers switched to dancing mood as they recited some Quranic verses and prayed.
But as soon as the few seconds clip was shared on Davido’s Twitter handle, a number of Muslim apologists, including Bashir Ahmed, former aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, said the video should be condemned by every right-thinking Muslim, claiming it made a “joke of the religion”.
In a series of tweets viewed by Per Second News, Davido was asked to pull down the video as they claimed it was “hurtful, harmful and disrespect to their faith.”
In his comment, Ahmed said: “ There are many reasons why every Muslim finds this content absolutely disrespectful, hurtful and offensive @davido. I assume you all know that we Muslims don’t mix our religion with jokes in any way, especially Salah (prayer), which is sacred and the second of the five pillars of Islam.
“In Salah, Muslims remember our Lord, Allah, express our love and respect for Him and invoke and strive to express our gratitude towards Him.
“The notion is that the Salah activity brings the individual face-to-face with God. That is what we believe, and that is our faith. Please respect it.”
Another person Tweeted: “This is abhorrence and sacrilegious. Refrain from catching fun with people’s religious sentiments.
“It’s a strong key societal peace. Let’s cultivate mutual respect. It might be acceptable in other religions, but islam forbids it totally. Let’s get educated.”
