Youths on Friday went on rampage in Ekpoma, Edo State, over attempted murder by some policemen of a young man who was handcuffed, pushed to the road before driving their operational vehicle to run over him severally.

The vehicle loaded with the policemen had attempted to kill the hapless youth who had refused them access to his phone.

Persecondnews gathered that the yet-to-be identified man had in a video that went viral on the social media resisted the police men attached to the Ekpoma Divisional Police headquarters to search his mobile phone.

“The young man had resisted the police men who were bent on searching his phone which later degenerated to a brawl between the officers, the victim, and passersby,” a witness said.

The incident, it was learnt, occurred on Thursday, and all efforts to whisk the man away to the station was futile as onlookers resisted.

The Force spokesperson, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, reacting to the video on Friday, said the action of the officers is ‘unpolice’.

He, however, assured that he had contacted the Commissioner of Police in Edo State, to launch proper investigation into the incident and take necessary actions.

“This is unpolice. I dont think a normal human being can do this. To crush a man with a car? This is unbelievable. I have personally contacted the CP Edo on this.

“We need to take urgent action on the matter. It’s strange to me as a person,” he said.

Meanwhile, the victim had been rushed to the hospital for intensive care as he had sustained degrees of injury as a result of the attempted murder.
