Seven-storey building crumbles in Lagos Island, many feared dead

Another multi-storey building has collapsed in Lagos with several people trapped.

The building still under construction collapsed at Banana Island in the Ikoyi area of Lagos on Wednesday afternoon.

According to witnesses, many workers at the site are still trapped beneath the rubble.

However, emergency responders have been mobilised to the scene of the incident.

Persecondnews recalls that in September 2022, a seven-storey building still under construction collapsed at Oba Idowu Oniru Street in Lekki area.

A 21-storey building under construction had on November 1, 2021 collapsed in the Ikoyi with about 46 deaths while 15 others were rescued.

Mr Femi Osibona, the owner of Fourscore Homes, the Developer, was among those who died in the collapsed building.

Confirming the incident, the Head of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Lagos State, said: “A report of 7 Storey building under construction was just received at Banana Island. Workers trapped. We are mobilising to respond.”
