Ahead of March 11 guber poll, Sokoto Resident Electoral Commissioner suspended

Ahead of March 11 governorship and state assembly polls, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Sokoto State, Dr. Nura Ali, has been suspended from office with immediate effect.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja announced in a letter signed by INEC’s Secretary, Mrs Rose Orlaran-Anthony, on Monday, and addressed to both the Commissioner and the Administrative Secretary in the state.

Persecondnews reports that no reason was given in the letter directing Ali to stay away from the Commission’s office in Sokoto.

The letter with reference no. INEC/SCE/442/V.II states: “This is to inform you of the commission’s decision for you (Dr Nura Ali), Resident Electoral Commissioner, Sokoto State, to stay away from the commission’s office in Sokoto state immediately until furthermore notice.

“The administrative secretary is directed to take full charge of INEC, Sokoto State office with immediate effects ”

Meanwhile, the Administrative Secretary, Mrs Hauwa Aliyu Kangiwa, has been directed to take over the running of the office with immediate effect.

She was directed to liaise with the supervising INEC National Commissioner in Abuja, Prof. Muhammad Sani Kaita for further instructions.
