Six killed in foiled insurgents’ attack on Anambra Police Station

The Anambra State Police Command said on Sunday that it has foiled an attack by some unknown gunmen believed to be insurgents on the Police Divisional Headquarters in Nkwelle-Ezunaka of the state.

Ikenga Tochukwu, the command’s spokesman, said the attackers came in two SUV vehicles and one Toyota Sienna armed with guns and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and petrol bombs.

He said gallant officers and men of the police repelled the attack and during a gun duel six of the attackers were killed.

Persecondnews reported that mayhem was unleashed on a police station in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, where three officers were killed.

Tochukwu said: “During the gun duel, unfortunately, one police operative attached to the station was fatally wounded and an office in the facility was partially affected by the petrol bomb the insurgents threw inside the station.

“Also, one patrol vehicle parked in front of the station was set ablaze by the gunmen.”

According to him, the incident is under control and manhunt by joint task force is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing insurgents.

“Some of the insurgents escaped with gun shots injuries, the situation is under control and the incident is still being assessed.

“Joint operations are still ongoing to track down the fleeing insurgents.”
