Another train derails in Abuja barely seven days after Itakpe-Warri train derailment

.... Abuja-Kaduna passengers stranded

Barely a week after the derailment of the Itakpe-Warri train, another passenger train on Friday derailed in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The Abuja-Kaduna Train Service reportedly derailed at Kubwa on Friday afternoon leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.

The cause of the derailment is unknown but vandalism of the rail tracks is suspected.

Confirming the incident, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Mr Fidet Okhiria, said details were still sketchy, adding that he was trying to get information on the incident from officials.

He said the cause of the derailment is being investigated.

Persecondnews recalls that the Itakpe-Warri train had on Sunday, January 22 derailed at a Kogi forest but the 143 passengers and 30 crew members were rescued.
