After her consecration as the first female Bishop of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr Nkechi Nwosu, has described her elevation as a humbling experience and a very joyous moment.
“It is a humbling experience and a very joyous one for God to remember me at a time like this. The joy at the consecration was overwhelming.
“For me to get to the level of consecration as a bishop, of course, is a dream come true,’’ she said in an interview shortly after taking office in Jos, Plateau State.
Persecondnews reports that Mrs Nwosu has set a new record in the annals of the Orthodox Church in Nigeria by attaining the highest position in the Methodist movement.
The Right Reverend (Dr) Nwosu was formally enthroned as the Bishop of Jos Diocese by the Archbishop of Kaduna, the Most Reverend Joseph Nnonah at the Christ Methodist Cathedral Church in Jos on Sunday.
The biennial Conference of Methodist Church Nigeria held in 2022 had elected Nwosu as the Bishop of Jos.
Bishop Nwosu said God has made all humans – male and female — equal and therefore no one should be discriminated against in the Christendom on the basis of gender.
“God has made all humans equal. She encouraged all Nigerians to always seek the face of God, especially as the general elections begin on February 25.
“We must all go out there and agree with God, listen to the spirit of God, and do what God said we should do,” the new bishop stated.
“Do that so that God will use us and anybody he will put on that seat to restore Nigeria to a place of pride in Africa, and the world,’’ Persecondnews quotes the cleric as saying.
Nwosu said the propagation of the gospel of Jesus Christ is an assignment that cuts across gender.
