Kebbi people hostile, antagonistic to APC candidate’s campaign team, pelt them with stones, satchets of water

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is gradually losing grounds and foothold in Kebbi State as the people are becoming hostile and unwelcoming to the campaign team of the party’s governorship candidate, Dr Nasir Idris, hurling stones and satchets of water at them.

The people openly expressed disapproval of the party by booing Idris and his campaign team each time they went out to campaign in the major cities of Kebbi, Per Second news gathered.

As a result of the hostile political environment currently pervading the state, supporters of Idris, who is the National President of Nigerian Union of Teachers, and Deputy National Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, are now afraid of coming out.

The situation is worrisome as it has hampered the campaign activities of the candidate, according to a party chieftain.

Usman Ibrahim, an APC supporter in Birnin Kebbi said: “We are afraid to campaign as the people get stoned with different dangerous objects each time they come out to campaign for APC.”

The situation is getting messier by the day, causing a former Governor of Kebbi State and Director General of All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council, Alhaji Saidu Nasamu Dakingari, to plead with the North to vote for the presidential candidate of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to fulfill the “promises’’ they had with the South.

“We had an agreement in 2015 with the Southerners, that is ‘amana (bond). We in the North are not people who betrayed or renege on our promises. Therefore, all of us should vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,’’ he said.

Dakingari also begged the Kebbi people to vote for Dr Nasir Idris, the party’s governorship candidate.

Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State, retired General Aminu Bande, has been having a field day campaigning without any hindrance or let.

“He has been going about campaigning and enjoying a good reception by the people without any hostile reaction from the residents,’’ Persecondnews quotes a politician as saying.
