Twenty-three days after she was shot dead by the police, Lagos lawyer, Mrs Bolanle Raheem, was on Tuesday buried in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Raheem’s body was buried after a funeral service at Olive Tree Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Banana Island, Lekki, Lagos.
Persecondnews recalls that the pregnant lawyer was fatally shot on Christmas Day in 2022 by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Drambi Vandi, under the bridge at Ajah on Lekki-Ajah Expressway in the presence of her husband, children and sister in her car driven by the husband.
Immediately the killer-cop carried the murder, he and his team disappeared but he was later arrested and taken into custody.
At the church service, Mr Ikechukwu Uwanna, the Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lagos Branch, expressed grief over the death of the lawyer.
A visibly shaken Uwanna said: “Once again, we have lost a member, a very, very active member of our branch.
“A colleague and we only pray that her soul finds rest and that the family will be consoled by the Almighty.”
A service of songs and day of tributes organized by the NBA in honour of the deceased had preceded the service on Monday.
Meanwhile, the trial of Vandi has begun with the Lagos Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) leading the prosecution.
Vandi was arraigned on Monday before Justice Ibironke Harrison of the Lagos High Court at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) on a charge of murder.
Scores of lawyers led by the NBA National President, Mr Yakubu Maikyau (SAN) had stormed the court for the trial.
Vandi pleaded not guilty to the charge while the case has been adjourned untill January 25 and 26.
