PDP PCC warns “bullion van” politicians against hounding Emefiele, destroying nation’s financial institution

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council has fingered “bullion vans” politicians as the unseen hand behind the hounding of Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele over what it called spurious allegations of terrorism financing and other infractions.

The Council said “ambitious and powerful politicians” who run activities with bullion vans are the ones after Emefiele using the Department of State Service (DSS).

Persecondnews had reported a rash of protests in Abuja in the past days against the plot to frame Emefiele on charges of terror sponsorship and other financial crimes believed to be orchestrated by the nation’s political elite who felt uncomfortable with the CBN policies lately especially the Naira redesign and cash withdrawal limits.

They perceived the policies as anti-vote buying and political mobilization in the 2023 polls.

Again on December 20, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) under the aegis of Coalition of Civil Society Group and Youth Coalition (CCSGYG) had staged a massive protest in Abuja, warning the DSS to steer clear of trump-up charges against Emefiele.

The Coalition led by its President, Bassey Etuk Williams and Secretary, Abubakar Ibrahim, made their position known during a rally held in Abuja, where they insisted the Apex Bank’s Governor is not a terrorist as alleged.

They also said certain politicians are behind the trial of Mr Emefiele owing to the fact that the recent CBN reforms would expose their corrupt escapades.

Equally, they expressed their displeasure over politicians’ manipulation of a noble organisation such as the DSS to trump up alleged unfounded charges against Emefiele who, they claimed, has done well to keep the economy afloat by revamping various sectors of the economy.

The PDP Council, in a statement by the spokesman, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan,
cited the worries that extremely pushy politicians allegedly running activities with bullion vans were out to tear down the nation’s monetary establishments, mainly, the CBN, for their self-centered political benefits.

“This is especially on the backdrop of apprehensions that inordinately ambitious politicians that run activities with bullion vans and raw cash are out to destroy the nation’s financial institutions, particularly, the CBN, for their selfish political interests.

‘’It is instructive to caution that the stability of the CBN as Nigeria’s apex financial institution is critical to the economic and social health of our nation and must not fall prey to corrupt politicians who are out to annex and control our national patrimony as well as resources for their personal ambitions.

‘’Nigerians know the politicians who are desperate for political office as their “turn”, who see our nation and her citizens as an estate for sale, and who believe that their vacuity, many gaffes, manifest incompetence, incapacity for leadership and allegations of smelly past can be perfumed through the dispensing of corruptly acquired cash,” the statement given to Persecondnews said.

Ologbondiyan said it was important that those who were allegedly after the CBN and its governor should be wary not to dishonour the institution in the course as the major outcome of such will be terrible on Nigeria’s already ailing economy.

‘’Our campaign counsels such politicians to rather market their programmes to Nigerians, if they have any, and end their reprehensible hope on vote buying.

‘’What is of paramount importance to us in the Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation is the stability of the polity, economic growth as well as the wellbeing and happiness of Nigerians in the overall national interest,” the Council stressed.
