National Sports Festival tragedy: Boxer punched to death

Team Imo has lost a boxer at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State.

Chukwuemeka Igboanugo died in the ring after he suffered heavy, deadly punches.

In the 86kg duel on Monday, Dec. 5, the boxer received a punch in his chin from his opponent, Prince Gaby Amagor, from Anambra.

Igboanugo slumped following the punches and when he failed to get up, the referee ended the fight and declared Amagor the winner.

The boxer was immediately evacuated from the ring for medical attention.

“He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital where he was rushed to,” an official said.
