The People’s Democratic Party Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has appealed to the sentiments of the Northern part of the county to consider national inclusivity, not ethnicity in electing a new president in 2023.
Boasting of a political career spanning over three decades, Nigeria’s former Vice-President said he stands shoulder high as a Northerner who has built bridges of unity across the country.
He spoke while featuring as a guest of the Arewa Joint Committee interactive sessions with the various presidential candidates on Saturday in Kaduna.
The event which took place at the Arewa House was attended by top echelon of the various socio-cultural organizations in the North.
Atiku said: “I have been in politics for more than three decades and I am a Northerner. So, if you ask me why I am the best candidate to lead Nigeria in 2023, I will simply say that what Nigeria needs is a pan-Nigerian president, not whether he is Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa-Fulani.”
He, however, highlighted the key policies he would implement if elected president to include securing the country, promoting national unity through deliberate actions that will secure mutual trust and confidence among others.
“I will secure the country, l promise you. I have the capacity and I will do it. I have what it takes to provide adequate security across the nation.”
The PDP flagbearer also promised reforms in education, agriculture and other critical sectors particularly the economy.
Atiku said he would reverse the worsening economic situation of the country if elected.
