A Professor of Microbiology in the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Folasade Ogunsola has been appointed the 13th Vice-Chancellor of the institution and the first female to occupy the position in the 60 years of its existence.
Ogunsola, who was named by the Selection Committee which screened other 10 contestants, takes over from the outgoing VC, Prof. Toyin Ogundipe, in November 2022.
Persecondnews gathered that Ogunsola is the daughter of the late nonagenarian renowned Geographer, Prof. Akin Mabogunje, and has served the university in various capacities.
She had also served the Provost of the College of Medicine, Idi Araba, Lagos, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor under the administration of Ogundipe.
About two years ago, when Ogundipe was removed from office under controversial circumstances by the then Governing Council led by Dr Wale Babalakin (SAN), she was appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor for about three months before the Federal Government reinstated Ogundipe.
On October 3, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Lanre Tejuosho, had announced that a new VC would be selected by today.
