An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure, the state capital, on Friday sentenced three out of the alleged killers of the daughter of the national leader of the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, to death by hanging.

The three convicts are Muhammed Shehu Usman, Adamu Adamu, and Lawal Mazaje.

Handing down the judgment, Justice Williams Olamide, said they are guilty of conspiracy to murder, kidnapping and armed robbery slammed against them by the police.

Persecondnews reports that Pa Fasoranti’s 58-year-old daughter, Olufunke Olakunrin, was shot dead on July 12, 2019, while traveling between Kajola and Ore, along the Ondo/Ore highway.

The court, however, discharged and acquitted the fourth defendant, Auwalu Abubakar, 25, of conspiracy.

The accused were arrested after the police established enough physical and forensic evidence linking them to the woman’s death.

The police also alleged that they also murdered one 65-year-old Ogunbiyi Mattew and kidnapped one Gerald Igboayaka the same day Funke Olakunri was murdered.

Afenifere and other organizations had fingered Fulani herdsmen for Olakunri’s death as well as other killings and kidnappings in the state.
