The Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence, Samuel Kanu Uche on Tuesday gave a gory detailed account of his ordeal in the kidnappers’ den, saying he was beaten black and blue with a threat to kill him.

“I was beaten thoroughly by the kidnappers who threatened to kill me if the money (N100 million ransom) was not paid,” he told a news conference in Lagos on Tuesday.

Uche said the N100 million ransom was paid before he was released by his abductors.

“The money was stacked in five sacks of N20 million each.

“The money was raised by members of the church as the government neglected me.”

Persecondnews had reported that Uche and two other senior clerics including a bishop were on Sunday kidnapped in their car along Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia.

The Head of Methodist Church in Nigeria was kidnapped alongside the Rt. Rev. Dennis Mark, the Methodist Bishop of Owerri and the Prelate’s Chaplain, by unidentified gunmen.

The gunmen later demanded N100 million ransom before they could free the prelate.

They were, however, freed by the gunmen on Monday after the money was paid.
