President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mr Anamekwe Chukwunyere Nwabuoku as the acting Accountant-General of the Federation.
Nwabuoku is to oversee the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation of the suspended incumbent, Ahmad Idris, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Idris was arrested by the EFCC for allegedly diverting funds and laundering about N80 billion which he invested in real estate in Abuja, Kano, Lagos, Dubai and across the world.
Persecondnews had reported that the Federal Government had suspended Idris last week in a letter signed by the Minister of Finance, budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed.
Confirming the new appointment on Sunday via a tweet was the President’s former aide, Bashir Ahmed.
“Mr. Anamekwe Chukwunyere Nwabuoku has been appointed to oversee the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, pending the outcome of the EFCC investigation of the suspended AGF, Ahmad Idris,” he tweeted.
