Senator Shuaibu Isa Lau (Taraba North-PDP) is now the Deputy Minority Leader in the Nigerian Senate. Lau was selected by the PDP Minority Caucus on Tuesday to replace Senator Emmanuel Bwacha (Taraba South), who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) last week Thursday.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan announced Senator Lau’s appointment as the upper chamber’s new Deputy Minority Leader after reading a letter from the PDP’s National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu.

Bwacha had earlier explained that he left the PDP because of the huge division and factionalization of his party in his home state, adding that “there is presence of APC in his Senatorial District of Taraba State.”

The lawmaker also lamented the “deliberate isolation from the governor”, as he further alleged that Governor Darius Ishaku has also been against his political progress.

In his remarks, Lawan said with this latest defection, APC has 70 Senators; PDP, 38, while the Young Progressives Party, YPP, has one.
